Future Android version to release manual device backup option

Future Android version will let its users release manual app data backup to Google Drive, according to the Android development team. For now there are no user-facing controls and you need to trust the the process to happen when the device is plugged in.

The later versions of Android is going to change this with the option to manually start a backup to Google Drive, which allows users to backup your application data, call history, device settings, and text messages.

We expect Android Q (or maybe even 9.1) to come up with the option to initiate a backup of your data to Google Drive, though Google hasn't yet made an official announcement. The upgrade however doesn't promise any other new features, though one don't have to rely on an obscure ADB command anymore.

The usefulness will still depend on developers enabling the backup flag, as it may not be the most useful of features for the average consumer.
