Qualcomm confirms its Sampling Flagship 7nmchipset to OEMs

Global chipset-maker Qualcomm has made an announcement of its own by confirming that its next flagship processor, which is likely to be Snapdragon 855, will be built on the 7nm process technology.  The company has made an announcement that announced it has begun sampling the first chips to its customers.

“We are very pleased to be working with OEMs, operators, infrastructure vendors, and standards bodies across the world, and are on track to help launch the first 5G mobile hotspots by the end of 2018, and smartphones using our next-generation mobile platform in the first half of 2019,”                                                                      Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm Incorporated.

Apple is set to use the 7nm process for its upcoming A12 SoC while Huawei on the other hand for in-house HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC.

Qualcomm added in a statement, "The 7nm SoC can be paired with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem, which is expected to be the first 5G-capable mobile platform for premium tier smartphones and other mobile devices."     

The Snapdragon 855 processor is likely to perform better, have an improved and enhanced battery life and on-board artificial intelligence (AI) processing. The company however didn't share much details regarding the upcoming chipset.
