Vive Wireless Adapter launched for untethered VR

HTC’s Vive Wireless Adapter is now launched and shipping units to US, besides taking pre orders for UK and Europe markets, before the grand launch in October. The handset is priced at $300 / £300 (around AU$400).

This Vive Wireless Adapter is attached to the rear side of an HTC Vive or Vive Pro headset and it lets you have freedom from the annoying cables, be it on the YouTube, FPS shooters, or lightsaber simulators and the like.

The price tag of $300 is steep considering the fact that the VR headset itself costs $500. In addition users need to spend an additional amount of $60 if they have Vive Pro headset. The adapter weighs129g, but it's the only choice to get away from mobile VR headsets with the graphics power of a desktop PC. The battery lasts up to 2.5 hours.

It supports up to 3 players inside the same play area though every player needs a headset, adapter and computer. Vive Wireless Adapter arrives with 2-month Viveport Subscription, which will let you rent VR-compatible games for free.
